Last time I wrote about the Steam Frame, I was refreshing its product page, waiting for a price and a reservation button.

We finally have both. Valve opened reservations for its wireless VR headset on September 14, 2026. There are two versions to choose from, and the difference is storage.

Steam Frame 256GB and 1TB prices

These are the euro prices on Steam, including VAT:

  • Steam Frame 256GB: €1,049
  • Steam Frame 1TB: €1,279

Both have the same processor, screens and controllers. Both include the wireless adapter for streaming from a PC, a microSD card slot for extra storage, and Half-Life: Alyx. The extra €230 buys more space for installed games.

One thing to budget for: neither kit includes a charger. Valve says a Steam Deck charger or an equivalent 45W USB-C charger will work.

Which one should you choose?

Choose 256GB if you'll mostly play games from your PC. When you stream, the game runs on the PC and stays installed there. Buying more storage in the headset won't improve that experience. You can still install games on the Frame itself and add a microSD card if you need more room later.

The catch with microSD is speed. A slower card can mean longer loading times and more waiting for games to install or update. Performance depends on the card and the device, so extra space doesn't necessarily mean the same experience as built-in storage. This matters for games stored on the card; it won't affect games streamed from your PC.

Choose 1TB if you plan to play a lot without a PC. It gives you more room to keep games installed without regularly deleting something to make space. That's useful if you want to take the headset elsewhere or keep a larger selection ready to play.

Check your games before paying for that extra space. Standalone support varies, and Valve's Steam Frame Standalone Verified list is a useful starting point. Owning a game on Steam doesn't automatically mean it will run well on the headset itself.

For mainly PC use, save the €230. The 1TB model makes sense when you know you'll use the storage.

How to reserve one

You can sign up on the official Steam Frame page.

The first reservation lottery closes on September 17, 2026, at 19:00 CEST, and you can enter for only one model. Valve will randomize the list after it closes, so signing up earlier within that window won't improve your place.

The first purchase emails are due to go out on September 18, 2026, as units become available to ship. Getting a place on the list doesn't guarantee a headset from the first batch.
